It took a lot of trial and error but I have finally gotten packing for a trip down to a science. A few years ago, I realized that there were a few items that I always needed no matter where I traveled. I started leaving those items in my carry-on so when it was time to pack, my essentials were already accounted for. Some of the things on my list are no-brainers while others, I discovered overtime. Keeping these items in my bag have cut my packing time in half and has definitely saved me the frustration of forgetting something important.
- Sunglasses – I like to travel with at least one pair of versatile sunglasses. My Rayban Aviators are appropriate for any setting (beach, ski, work or pleasure). No brainer.
- Headphones – this is a must for a long flight or any part of your trip where you need to control the noise around you. Noisy neighbors in your hotel, crying baby on the plane – headphones.
- Gold clutch – let me start by saying that I consider metallics (gold, silver, bronze) neutrals. I always travel with a gold clutch because I can use it to contain the smaller items in my always over-sized travel handbag and it can double as a “going out” bag. I have ad to use my make-up bag as a clutch on numerous occasions because I forgot a bag to go out.
- Travel-sized perfume atomizer – I refill with my go-to fragrance when needed.
- Travel Candle – I learned this the hard way. I once had an unexpected layover and and was put up in a less than desirable hotel for a night. I reeked of cigarettes. Ever since then I travel with a candle.
- Playing Cards – These babies usually come in handy on vacation.
A few additional items that I always travel with:
- Wine opener
- Power strip (saved me a bunch of times when all the outlets are taken at the airport)
