Here’s what changed for us: we stopped folding our kids’ clothes for them.
Not because we gave up. Because they were ready and we didn’t realize it. Once we gave them a folding board sized for little hands and a weekly organizer so they always knew where things went, they just did it. And they were proud of it.
That’s the part that surprised me most. Kids want to feel capable. When you give them a task they can actually complete and the tools to do it, they don’t fight it. They own it.
The win is double.
For them: they’re building independence, learning to take ownership of their things, and developing a sense of responsibility that carries into everything else.
For you: that pile disappears from your list. Permanently.
You’re not doing it for them anymore. They’re doing it. And they feel good about it.
