Christmas Card Tradition

Sending out holiday cards is one of my favorite holiday traditions. I started the tradition about 15 years ago. I started off buying 2 boxes of holiday cards from the drugstore and sending out to my friends and family. I have always loved getting and sending mail so it was a fun project. One year I did a custom card and I loved it so much that I never went back to buying store cards.

This year I was inspired by a friend who did a fun animation for her wedding save-the-dates. I sought out her artist in the beginning of November but she told me she had a 10-week waiting period, in other words, not soon enough for Christmas. So I turned to Fiverr – an online market place for tasks and services like graphic design, writing etc. I found an artist who could do what I liked. I pr0vided him with photos of me and my family (including the dogs) and specifics about what I wanted us to be wearing. A week later, I had a super fun animation of my family. Did I mention it cost me $70 as opposed to $200 that the original artist quoted me? Score! Fiverr for the win!

I printed them out with Moo. I chose to print them as 5×7 postcards because it was the more economical option (I need 200 of them after all!) and ordered envelopes and stamps from Amazon.

My mailing list is pretty up-to-date because of the wedding but every few years or so, I send out a Google Form for people to fill in their addresses so I have an updated list. This is the easiest way … beats emailing or texting people and then having to enter their addresses to a spreadsheet!

Because our lists combined is so long, it’s a bit of work to stuff, seal, label and stamp all of them but …. it is worth it! I love mailing them out and knowing that they will reach loved ones that I don’t always get to see. It’s a tradition I look forward to keeping up for many years to come.
